The Arctic Figure Skating Club, A probationary club in 2003 became a full member of the United States Figure Skating Association in 2004 and has risen quickly in membership and prominence. This rapid rise to recognition has been made possible by the foresight of Canton Township leaders, Arctic Edge Arena owners and management who have provided extensive daily training time at reasonable rates.
The Arctic Figure Skating Club presently has among it’s members the United States
National Pair Champions Brooke Castile and Benjamin Okolsky. United States World Team members Meryl Davis and Charlie White are also active members of the club. In addition, the Arctic Edge Arena has become a training site for competitors from across the United States and from several different countries around the world including the 2006 Olympic Silver medalists in Ice Dancing Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto who trained at
Arctic Edge from 2003-2008.
Membership in the Arctic Figure Skating Club provides beginners and advanced skaters the opportunity to take United States Figure Skating tests and to compete in any USFS competition for which a skater is eligible. Members can also participate in ice shows and exhibitions such as the opening ceremonies of the Campus Martius Park in Detroit, or ice shows and skating exhibitions here in Canton. The AFSC hosts social functions and also sponsors skating related events which benefit worthy causes. The club itself is a member
of regional entities which provide interclub competitions and other shared opportunities for skaters and their families.
